Is my data safe with you?

Your records live on your device first and sync to your own workspace, which only you and the people you invite can open. We don't sell data, we don't share it with lenders, and we don't hand it to anyone without your instruction. You can export everything you've entered at any time.

Do you report me to the tax authority?

Accepted Answer

No. Nothing is submitted until you choose to file. With self-filing you read the prepared return, certify it and file it with the authority yourself. With Handled, a licensed professional reviews it first and files it for you after you certify. Until then, your records are visible only to you and people you've invited.

Question 3

What if I have no network?

Accepted Answer

Keep working. Records save on your device immediately, and reading your ledger, invoices and positions all work with no line at all. When you're back, it syncs itself, and the pill at the top tells you how many records are still waiting.

What if my phone dies or I clear my browser?

Accepted Answer

Anything already synced is safe in your workspace and comes back when you sign in elsewhere. Installing BizBrada to your home screen tells the browser to treat your records as permanent — we prompt you to do that after your first record for exactly this reason.

Question 5

I've never filed anything. Can I still start?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and you're in good company. Start by recording what's happening now. Once there's a month of records we can see clearly what's outstanding, sort your Tax ID if you don't have one, and take the backlog in order.

I'm behind by months. Is that a problem?

Accepted Answer

It's the most common situation we see. Being behind is fixable; staying quiet about it is what gets expensive. Tell us how far back it goes and we'll work through it with you, oldest first.

Question 7

Do I pay company income tax or personal income tax?

Accepted Answer

It depends on one thing: whether you're a registered limited company. A company pays company income tax to the federal service. A business name, a partnership or an unregistered shop isn't separate from you in law, so the profit is your income and your state collects the tax on it. You tell BizBrada how you're registered when you set up, and we show you whichever of the two applies — change it the day it changes in real life.

My staff live in a different state from my shop. Where does their PAYE go?

To the state each person lives in, not the state your shop is in. So a Lagos shop with an Ogun-resident staff member remits to two offices. The staff register asks for each person's home state and the PAYE report groups the month by revenue service, with a separate total for each — so you're not splitting it by hand.

Do you cover my state?

Accepted Answer

Federal rates and dates are held for everywhere in Nigeria. Self-filing works in every state — you prepare and file from your own records. Handled is done directly by AMEC in Lagos and by verified partner accountants in states where we have them. If we don't have a partner in your state yet, you can still keep your records and self-file, or join the waitlist and we'll let you know when Handled opens there.

What is the difference between self-filing and the Handled add-on?

Self-filing means BizBrada prepares the return from your own records and you file it with the tax authority yourself, online or in person. The Handled add-on adds a licensed professional who reads the same report, checks the figures against your records, asks you anything that's unclear, and files it for you. You can choose either path for each return.

What does the licensed professional actually review?

They review the frozen return BizBrada prepared from your records, the supporting transactions behind each figure, and whether the right tax treatment was applied. They do not guess sales you haven't entered — they work from what you recorded. If something is missing or looks off, they send it back to you with plain questions before anything is submitted.

Which returns can I file myself, and which need a licensed professional?

Monthly returns — VAT and PAYE — are designed to be filed straight from the prepared report, so most users self-file those. Yearly returns need a signed statement of accounts behind them: audited accounts for companies above the threshold, or a self-attestation for smaller companies and individuals. You can self-file a yearly return if you have the right sign-off, or use Handled to have a licensed professional review the accounts and file for you.

Can I just print my yearly return and file it myself?

Monthly returns like VAT and PAYE, yes — the report is the filing and you can submit it yourself. A yearly return (company income tax, or personal income tax on your own profit) is different: under s.11(5) of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 it goes in with a statement of accounts somebody has stood behind. That means audited accounts, or — for a small company or an individual — your own signed attestation. You can self-file a yearly return if you have that sign-off, or add Handled and a licensed professional will review the accounts and file for you. BizBrada asks who signed the accounts before it will mark a yearly return filed, and will park the return as 'waiting on the accounts' while your auditor finishes.

Do I need an accountant as well?

Not necessarily. Self-filing uses the report BizBrada prepares from your records, so you don't need an accountant for that. With Handled, the review and filing is done by a licensed professional (AMEC directly in Lagos; verified partner accountants in other states). If you already have an accountant, invite them to your workspace and they can work in your records directly.

Can my staff use it without seeing everything?

Yes. Staff can record sales and expenses and see their own entries. Your tax positions, filings and the full ledger stay with you. Only an owner can remove a record, and every removal stays in the trail.

Does it connect to my banking app?

Accepted Answer

On Growth and Scale, yes. You link your bank account once through a licensed open banking provider — you sign in on your bank's own page, so we never see your bank password — and your transactions arrive on their own. Every line lands in a review queue first: nothing enters your books until you accept it, and lines matching something you already recorded are flagged as duplicates. The connection is read-only, so BizBrada can see transactions and can never move money. On Free and Starter you upload a statement instead, which does the same job with one extra step.

Can I stop the bank connection later?

Any time, from Settings. Unlinking withdraws the permission at the provider as well as removing it here, so the access actually ends rather than just disappearing from your screen. If your plan drops below Growth, we do the same thing for you automatically. Transactions you already accepted stay in your books.

How much data does it use?

Accepted Answer

Very little. Payloads are small by design, photos are compressed on your device before upload, and Save data mode holds attachments back until you're on a better connection.

What does it cost?

Your plan is based on your turnover, the same way your tax obligations are. Free under ₦25m, ₦7,500/month from ₦25m–₦50m, ₦15,000/month from ₦50m–₦100m and ₦55,000/month above ₦100m. Add Handled to any paid plan and licensed professionals review and file your returns. Anything that is professional work rather than software — a Tax Clearance Certificate, past years brought up to date, an audit — is quoted before we start. What you owe in tax goes to the tax authority; we never hold your tax money.

Do I still pay if my return is nil?

Yes. A nil return is still a return — the records have to be checked, the return prepared, and it has to reach the authority before the deadline. Missing a nil return carries the same penalty as missing any other, so if we file it for you, we invoice for it.

What happens if I file late?

Accepted Answer

The Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025 puts a figure on it: ₦100,000 for the first month a return is late and ₦50,000 for each month it stays outstanding (s.101). Tax paid late has 10% added plus interest from the due date (s.65), and money you deducted from staff or suppliers and didn't pass on carries 10% a year plus interest (s.107). BizBrada shows the section and the running figure on the return itself, and puts the deadline on your calendar 14, 7, 3 and 1 days ahead so it stays hypothetical.

My turnover is small — do I have to file VAT every month?

Not necessarily. Under s.22(4) a business turning over less than ₦100 million a year isn't forced onto the monthly VAT return. If you charge VAT you file anyway, and s.22(5) lets you elect into monthly returns in writing even when you're under the line — there's a setting for that in your tax profile. Cross ₦100 million and monthly returns start straight away.

How long do I have to keep my records?

Six years after the year of assessment (s.31(5)) — so in 2026 you should still be able to produce 2020 onwards. BizBrada never ages anything out: your records, receipt photos and filed returns stay as entered, and you can export any range to CSV or Excel whenever you want them elsewhere.

Can I use it on a laptop?

Accepted Answer

Yes. BizBrada is a web app first, so it works on a laptop, a tablet and an Android phone with the same records behind it. Install it on whichever you use most.

What if the figure is more than I expected?

Accepted Answer

Tap the explanation on your compliance screen. It shows the arithmetic, the biggest sales behind the figure, and the honest ways it might come down — usually purchases you haven't entered. If it's still wrong, you get a person, not a help article.

How often do I need to record transactions?

Accepted Answer

Daily is best, weekly is fine. The closer to the sale or purchase you record it, the less you forget. BizBrada works offline, so you can enter a sale in the market, on a bus, or during a power outage — it syncs when the network comes back.

What records do I need to keep?

Accepted Answer

Keep anything that proves money moved: sales receipts, purchase invoices, bank transfer confirmations, POS slips, and photos of goods bought or sold. If you paid cash and got no paper, record the amount, who it was for, and what it was for. The goal is a record that can answer three questions later: what happened, when, and how much.

What if I don't have a receipt?

Record it anyway. A missing receipt does not mean a missing transaction. Enter the amount, the date, the supplier or customer, and a short note. If the receipt turns up later, attach it. If it never turns up, the entry still stands — but unsupported expenses are harder to defend in an audit or a tax dispute.

What does 'clean books' mean in practice?

Clean books means every sale and expense is recorded, categorised, and matched to something real — a receipt, an invoice, or a bank line. It means no double entries, no unexplained gaps, and no personal money mixed with business money. When the books are clean, your profit, VAT, and tax figures all come from the same place.

Can I catch up if I'm months behind?

Yes. Start with today, then work backwards one month at a time. Use the batch entry sheet for a whole month of sales or expenses at once, and upload bank statements to fill gaps. The important thing is to stop the hole getting deeper while you patch the old months.

Who enters the data — me, my staff, or my accountant?

Accepted Answer

You choose. You and your staff can record day-to-day transactions. Staff see only what they need to do their job; the owner keeps the full view and the only right to remove records. If you have an accountant, invite them with a bookkeeper or accountant role and they can work directly in your workspace.

What about cash sales?

Record them the same way as transfers or POS sales. The till balance at the end of the day should match what you recorded. If it doesn't, note the difference — a small float or breakage is normal, but a pattern of missing cash needs to be seen.

How does bank matching work?

Two ways. On Growth and Scale you can link the account itself, read-only, and the lines arrive on their own. On any plan you can upload your statement as CSV, Excel, or PDF. BizBrada reads the lines, then checks each one against what you have already recorded. Anything that looks like a record you already have is flagged as a duplicate so your takings are never doubled, and you choose which of the remaining lines to bring in and how to categorise them. Over time the queue learns from those choices, so narrations you handle the same way every month come already filled in. Working through a statement this way is where most bookkeeping problems are found before they become tax problems.

Do I need to understand accounting to use this?

No. You record in plain language — who paid you, who you paid, what it was for. BizBrada sorts it into the right accounts and categories behind the scenes. The reports are written in business terms, not accounting jargon.
