A small annual charge from your state for each place you trade from. Easy to forget, and the one they turn up about.
What it is
Your state charges a registration fee on business premises — shops, offices, workshops. It's paid the first year you open and renewed each year after, usually for less.
The amounts are small next to VAT or PAYE. The reason it matters is enforcement: it's a physical, visible obligation, and a team can arrive at the door about it.
One per place, not one per business
Two shops in the same state is two registrations. A branch in another state is that state's registration, on their terms.
